Labour laws orientation

labourSHILLONG, JUNE 25: Two days orientation programme on labour laws got underway at the Raitong building on Tuesday to ensure that all officers of Labour and Employment and Craftsmen Training develop a common understanding about their roles and responsibilities in the implementation of various central and state labour laws.

Mr. M. S. Rao, Principal Secretary, Labour Department inaugurated the Organized by the Labour Commissioner office, Labour principal secretary MS Rao inaugurated the orientation programme.

Labour commissioner MN Nampui, officers from the Directorate of Labour and Employment and Craftsmen Training are attending the programme.

Dr. Onkar Sharma, from VV Giri National Labour Institute is the resource person for the orientation programme. VV Giri National Labour Institute, Noida is under the Union Ministry of Labour and is an autonomous institute dedicated to research in the field of labour and training of labour administrators, trade unions, public sector managers and other related government functionaries.

Inaugurating the programme Rao said that the aim of organizing this orientation programme is to ensure that all officers of Labour and Employment and Craftsmen Training develop a common understanding about their roles and responsibilities in the implementation of various Central and State labour laws.

Rao, informed that the resource person will dwelt at length about the fundamentals of different labour laws which includes the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996, Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, Inter State Migrant Workmen (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1979, Unorganised Workers Social Security Act, 2008, Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 and Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976.

Mr. Rao urged the participants to make the best use of the programme and take advantage of the expertise of the resource person by their active participation.- By Our Reporter
