u20 i leagueSHILLONG, MAR 6: Shillong Lajong FC and Churchill Brothers SC played out a goalless draw in the opening group match of the Under-20 I-League tournament which got underway at the JRD Tata Complex in Jamshedpur on Wednesday.

A press release by the media cell of Lajong said both the teams missed a number of opportunities to go in front, more so by the Shillong team. The first real chance of the match came to Bipin Singh, but he couldn’t capitalize on it. However, the Lajong boys continued to have better ball possession and missed three more chances before the break.

In the second half, the Goans started strongly, creating more chances to surge ahead. Lajong later matched them play for play, but neither side were able to get that all important lead. The score line remained nil at the end of 90 minutes of play, which meant both the teams had to share a point apiece.

Later, Lajong coach Gumpe Rime said that it was a good first match for both the teams. He commended his wards for adapting and adjusting quite well to the hot conditions in Jamshedpur. Gumpe also said that the team should take heart and inspiration from the result.
