SHILLONG, MAR 6: Meghalaya governor RS Mooshahary administered the oath of office to senior Congress legislator Rowell Lyngdoh as the pro-term speaker of the Meghalaya legislative assembly on Wednesday.

As a pro-term speaker Lyngdoh will administer the oath taking ceremony of the 58 other legislators of the ninth Meghalaya legislative assembly.

The Meghalaya assembly has 60 legislators.

The oath taking ceremony will take place on Thursday at the Meghalaya assembly.

The election of the new speaker of the Meghalaya assembly will take place on Monday next. As the Congress has 29 legislators and support of two NCP and eight Independent legislators, Congress speaker’s candidate will cruise through without any hitch.

According to Congress sources, the Congress will put up former minister AT Mondal as its candidate for the post of the speaker. However it is not clear whether the opposition consisting of the UDP, HSPDP, NPP will put up any candidate considering their combine strength is only 16 legislators.- By Our Reporter
