Laloo: Managing education without central fund impossible

Jowai, Dec 5: Meghalaya education minister RC Laloo said that managing the education sector and spearheading the SSA and MMP solely by the state government without the fund from the central government was “impossible.” He said most of the schemes implemented by the state government is funded by the central government.

Inaugurating the three day’s Public Information Campaign at Madan Iawmusiang in Jowai on Wednesday noon, Laloo said, “To run my department (education) without the central funding is impossible under the banner of SSA and MMP”. The other dignitaries who were present during the inaugural function were the West Jaintia Hills district deputy commissioner PS Dkhar, who presided over the function and the DFP director and IMPCC chairman Dr. Engam Pamei.

Laloo also said that he was pleased to know that the PICs are being organized to make the people aware of the central schemes. Most of the schemes implemented in the state are being funded by the centre which has largely benefitted the people. Giving an example he pointed out the   Accelerated Integrated Benefit Programme (AIBP) funded by the central government which, he said has helped to uplift various parts of the state.

Laloo also revelead that other schemes funded by the central government are are the SSA, MMP, Agriculture, Rural Development etc. Later Laloo also inaugurated the DAVP exhibition.

Pamei explained the objectives of holding such PIC such as and said the awareness campaigns were to reach out to the people to explain the schemes launched for their welfare.
The information campaign on Bharat Nirman programmes of the union government are organised by the central media units like PIB, DFP, DAVP, AIR & DDK in cooperation with the district administration.

Later during the the technical session, Dr. J.V. Shullai, Addl. DM & HO, Jowai spoke about the various health schemes being implemented under NRHM such as the activities of the Village Health & Sanitation Committees, Janani Suraksha Yojana, JSSK and RSVY.
