LO opposes irregular transfers

SHILLONG, OCT 4: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma today asked the chief minister Conrad Sangma to intervene into the irregular transfers of police officers across different ranks, which he alleged is an outcome of “political interference”.

Shooting a letter to Conrad here on Thursday, Mukul said, “I, therefore, urge you to call for a discussion related to the matter indicated above in the State Security Commission at the earliest.”

He said in the last few months, a number of haphazard and irregular transfers of police officers across different ranks and files have been affected.

According to him, this development has vitiated the environment in the whole Police Organisation, as most of these transfers have been an outcome of political interference.

Reminding that the police organisation plays a crucial role in the whole process of ‘Administration of Justice’, he said it is besides the burden of various other responsibilities of attending to call of duty as per mandate of law.

“This whole action resorted to by the authorities due to political interference is in contravention of the provisions of the Meghalaya Police Act 2010, creating an unhealthy precedence which will have a serious bearing in the whole process of Administration of Justice,” Mukul stated.
