SHILLONG, NOV 25: Of the three thousand three hundred fifty eight cases posted on the Lok Adalat courts in different parts of the state nine hundred seventy cases were settled amicably. The Lok Adalat held in Meghalaya on Monday was part of the government‘s effort to dispose cases that have been pending in different courts across the country.
Most of the cases that were brought before the Lok Adalat were motor accident claims, civil cases and others. Apart from the regular cases, sufficient numbers of pre-litigation cases were also settled through Monday’s Lok Adalat.
In Meghalaya the Lok Adalat was conducted in Meghalaya high court, all district courts, all sub divisional courts and all the district council courts.
Most number of cases during the National Lok Adalat was posted in East Khasi Hills district. There were as many as eight hundred forty six cases out of which two hundred fifty cases were disposed off.
The authorities overseeing the National Lok Adalat are quite happy over the success rate as similar exercise conducted in the past did succeed in reaching as many settlements as it did not.- By Our Reporter
