SHILLONG, MAR 14: Spelling out the intention of the MUA II coalition government headed by Mukul Sangma to fight corruption, Meghalaya Governor RS Mooshahary allayed the misgivings that the Lokyukta bill which was waiting for his approval is weak and ineffective.
Addressing the opening day of the Meghalaya budget session, Mooshahary said the state government is committed to fight corruption at all levels and added,
“There have been some misgivings about some of the provisions of the Lokayukta bill, but a closer reading of the bill would allay some of the apprehensions.
Mooshahary informed the house that the government has received back the bill with his message and will make changes as required. He said, “It is also the intention of government to link this initiative with its proposed initiative of social audit on concurrent basis,”
On behalf of the government, Mooshahary assured the house that the government undertakes regular monitoring and evaluation of various schemes and projects being implemented by different departments to ensure that the schemes are implemented more
effectively so that the fruits of development percolate down to the poorest of the poor, whose lot the government seeks to improve.
Besides the work of monitoring and evaluation is being done both in-house and by outsourcing to reputed organizations and agencies within the state and outside, Mooshahary informed. He said, “At present, three studies are underway covering three programmes, , Irrigation and RKVY.
More such studies will be instituted during the 12th plan period. Committees have also been set up to review and monitor the implementation of various schemes, especially the flagship
programmes, Twenty Point Programme and MPLAD scheme.”- By Our Reporter
