Lt. Gen. Panwar is new commander of 101 Area

SHILLONG, JAN 14:  Lieutenant General R. S.  Panwar assumed command of the 101 Area on Monday. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Indian Military Academy and the prestigious National Defence College, Panwar was major general in-charge administration at the Central Command headquarters prior to his present assignment.

An army release issue here said Panwar has held various important instructional, staff and command appointments in his 37 years of military career. He was commissioned into Corps of Signals on 13 June 1976.  He has commanded a Signal Regiment and has been Commander of a Signal Group as well as a Sub Area.  He has held important appointments at HQ Northern Command and at Army headquarters He was head of a department at the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, Mhow.

Lt. Gen. Panwar has been awarded M. Tech and PhD degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay as well as a degree in Master of Management Studies from Osmania University, Hyderabad.

A highly accomplished officer, he has many firsts to his credit. For his achievements he was awarded the Vishist Seva Medal. He has also been awarded the Chief of Army Staff and GOC-in-C Northern Command Commendation Cards.

He is married to Anupam Panwar and has two sons, Squadron Leader Yakshendra Singh Panwar and Nityendra Panwar. (By Our Reporter)
