Man who had threatened minister arrested

Shillong, Sep 9: A twenty-six year old pharmacist Rimialson Daw was arrested by the Meghalaya police Sunday for allegedly sending a threatening message to Meghalaya urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh last month.

Daw was arrested from Baghmara, South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya and he is working as a pharmacist in the Community Health Centre in Baghmara.

Lyngdoh had received the threatening text messages in her cell phone after her goodwill visit to Maharashtra and Karnataka to stem the exodus of northeast students in the wake of backlash against Assam violence. She had received the message in her cell phone on the intervening nights of August 27 when she landed in Kolkata.

East Khasi hills superintendent of police Mariahom Khrakhrang said,  “Daw will be interrogated by us once he is brought to Shillong.”

Kharkrang also said that the police would find out the reasons behind sending such threatening messages to Lyngdoh. Daw has been booked under section 502 of IPC and 66 A of the Information Technology Act. By Our Reporter
