SHILLONG, NOV 9: At the inaugural function of the 2 day National Workshop on ” Managing Yourself and Leading others” Meghalaya minister of sports and youth affairs Zenith Sangma , who graced the occasion as chief guest, said that workshops like this are important especially for the youth who are the future leaders.

Sangma said that the youth should be motivated to participate in such programme rather than just staying confined to academics. Workshops and training programme of this nature are platforms for moulding the individual that are essential for self- reliance as they add experiences which are life’s lessons, he added.

In his inaugural address Sangma spoke of his past experiences on various entrepreneurial activities he carried out before he became a legislator and added that each of these experiences were life’s’ lessons that imbibed into him the knowledge of the ground reality and shaped him as an individual and a leader.

Sangma also urged the young participants to be innovative, use the available resources, manage them wisely and be a job giver rather than job seeker. In this aspect he informed that the government is providing various schemes for the youth to start entrepreneurial ventures in various areas like agriculture, horticulture, fishery, poultry, floriculture and many others livelihood programme.

Sangma, however, added that, positive attitude and the desire for positive change are needed to overcome the problems and challenges that may come and this he said are the traits of a true leader.

The programme was organised by the Department of Management, Shillong College saw the participation of students from other colleges of the city.-By Our Reporter
