SHILLONG, FEB 1: The first ever football tournament was organized at Jongsha village Mawkynrew constituency under the aegis of the Mawkynrew Constituency Football Club with a moto “To build for a brighter tomorrow”.The tournament was opened by the additional commission & secretary of transport departmet C Lyngdoh who said, “Villages like these should be promoted, especially in this field where there is no dearth of talent”.
Kyntiewlang Buhphang, adviser to the club, said that the aim of organizing such tournament is to promote the game of football in the constituency, especially when there are lot of talents in the constituency. This tournament is the 1st of its kind to be organized in the constituency.
Twenty four teams are participating in the tournament and the first match was played between Mawsir and Rapleng village respectively. Rapleng village emerge the winner through a tie- breaker. The final match of the tournament is slated to be held on February 22. – By Our Reporter
