MCF clarifies on bandh

SHILLONG, OCT 26: The Meghalaya Citizens Forum (MCF) has clarified that the business community has neither called or supported the twelve hours bandh call given by the Irene Hujon faction of the Civil Society of Women Organisation (CSWO-I). The CSWO(I) issued a press release on Saturday evening appealing to the business communities to close their shops and business establishement for twelve hours on Monday. The bandh of the business established according to the release was slated from 5 am to 5 pm on Monday to protest against the killing of trader Vikash Nandwal who succumbed to burn injuries on Saturday morning in Delhi.

The MCF convener who did not reveal his identity said in an email that was mailed on Saturday that Saturday’s silent candle lighting tribute was called as a mark of respect to the departed soul and show solidarity to the family. It said it was an open platform where all were welcomed and any views expressed by any individual were in his/her personal capacity and the forum does not subscribe to bandh called of business establishment given by the CSWO (I).- By Our Reporter
