SHILLONG, OCT 19: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) deputy chairman Gabriel Wahlang refuted allegation that the MDC hostel has become a den for drug users or peddlers.

Wahlang told reporters on Monday, “In fact, there has been no raids conducted either by the Seng Samla Shnong of Mawprem or by the police in the premises of the MDC Hostel.”

Wahlang was reacting to news reports in the local dailies alleging that a group of drug users and peddlers were nabbed from the premises of the MDC Hostel last week.

There were also allegations that the entrance gate to the hostel was left open twenty four hours.

According to Wahlang, an inquiry by the Superintendent in-charge of MDC hostel found out that the incident of apprehending the drug users and peddlers happen  outside the hostel premises.

Wahlang said, “Moreover, the apprehended persons are not even people residing in the hostel building,” even as he reiterated that the allegations that the MDC hostel has become a den for drug users and facilitating the sale of such substances is absolutely wrong and baseless.

Wahlang further informed that the gate of the hostel was closed by 10 pm and open at 8 am.

Appreciating the steps taken by the Seng Samla Shnong of Mawprem in thwarting such activities, Wahlang, however, requested them to also inform the KHADC authority for better coordination.- By Our Reporter
