MECF opposes MePDCL decision

SHILLONG, APRIL 15: Headmen and residents of South West Khasi Hills District have formed the Mawkyrwat Electricity Consumers Forum (MECF) in a meeting held at Mawkyrwat recently.

MECF chairman Wallambok Syiemiong in a statement issued here informed that the forum has resolved to demand the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) to make public the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Orissa-based Feedback Energy Distribution Company Limited (FEDCO).

According to him, the people especially the consumers are not made aware on the role and function of the FEDCO under the Mawkyrwat Division.

“We also demand the FEDCO to keep in abeyance the process of job recruitment in the area till the time that the MePDCL is able to come up with clear cut clarification on the matter,” Syiemiong said while urging the consumers not to pay electricity bills to the company.

He said that the forum would also soon meet the power minister James K Sangma requesting for his intervention into the matter besides addressing the various problems faced by the consumers of the district.
