Meeting with BLOs held

SHILLONG, FEB 16: As the date of elections for Meghalaya Legislative Assembly drew closer, the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) of 126 polling stations under the three Legislative Assembly constituencies in South West Garo Hills were on Friday briefed about their duties and responsibilities ahead of the elections.

Speaking to the BLOs during the meeting, Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, C.V.D. Diengdoh said that the briefing has been arranged as there are a number of activities to be done before and on the polling day, including distribution of photo voter slips. While acknowledging the crucial role played by the BLOs and their efforts and contributions to the success of elections and democracy in the state,   the DEO also urged upon the BLOs to carry out the exercise of distributing voter slips, manning of the Voter Assistance Booths (VABs) and facilitation of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and infirm voters so that everyone is given the opportunity to exercise their right to vote.

ADC (Election), H.D.B. Sangma briefed in detail as to how BLOs are to distribute the Photo Voter Slips based on the latest instructions from the Election Commission and to return the undistributed voter slips by February 23, next. She also instructed them on noting of the absentee, shifted, expired or duplicate voters, distribution of voter’s guide brochures and the mementos to be given to the early voters. She informed the BLOs about the alternative documents that voters can produce for casting their votes in the absence of their EPICs or voter slips.

During the briefing, the BLOs were informed about 10 polling stations that would be used for webcasting, namely, nine under 53-Ampati and one under Mahendraganj and the respective BLOs were also briefed accordingly.

Later, EAC (Election), W.R.G. Momin, read out the list of three Model polling stations, three all-women polling stations, three special polling stations for PWDs, etc and the BLOs were instructed to make the arrangements accordingly.
