SHILLONG, APR 8: Meghalaya BJP today observed two minute silence to pay respect to the “departed soul of Vinod Khanna” in a party programme held in the city here.
Interestingly the veteran actor Khanna is still alive and was admitted to Sir H N Reliance Foundation Hospital here on March 31 for severe dehydration.
This act has led to severe controversy in the party.
Party general secretary David Kharsati told the gathering present there, “Before we start our today’s programme we will hold two minute silence to pay respect to the departed soul of Vinod Khanna.”
The programme was also attended by the party national vice president in-charge Jammu & Kashmir and Rajasthan Avinash Rai Khanna, who was on his two-day visit to the state for strengthening the party ahead of 2018 state elections.
Vinod Khanna was the BJP Member of Parliament in the 16th Lok sabaha from Gurdaspur constituency.
Earlier, a viral picture of ailing Vinod Khanna shook Bollywood fans to the core, leaving them worried for the 80s superstar.
On the top of that, a cryptic tweet of contemporary megastar Amitabh Bachchan has fuelled the rumours of Khanna’s death panicking fans even more.
The latest victim of this rumour is Meghalaya BJP.
Later in the evening the party had to immediately issue a statement clarifying on the issue.
“Among misleading reports in social media that Ex BJP MP Vinod Khanna is no more, Meghalaya BJP wishes to clarify that as per latest reports he is responding well to treatment. We wish him a speedy recovery & a long and healthy life,” Kharsati stated in the press release.
