Meghalaya get its first amphitheatre

SHILLONG, JUNE 3: Meghalaya cooperation minister HDR Lyngdoh inaugurated the amphitheatre at Mawsmai village in Sohra, which is owned and managed by the Mawsmai-Nongthymmai Eco-Tourism Cooperative Society under Rural Tourism Sector of the department.

Lyngdoh expressed his pleasure to inaugurate the amphitheatre and lauded the efforts of the the cooperative department staff for their keen initiative and endeavours in setting up such an amphitheatre, which is also the first of its kind in Meghalaya.

Lyngdoh, who spoke as the chief guest during the inaugural function on Wednesday, hoped that the Society will cater to the needs of the people of the area. He asserted that the government is trying to explore the possibility of setting up a Rain Museum at Cherrapunjee, which will attract tourists both from within and outside the country.

Lyngdoh said that Cherrapunjee is a renowned place in the world. Further, the department is trying to develop tourist centres in the state through different societies, he informed.

Lyngdoh hoped that the amphitheatre will generate revenue and income for the people of the area. He called upon the people for their cooperation and support towards the development of the area in different sphere of activities.

Lyngdoh also stressed upon the need of creating a friendly atmosphere so as to make the tourist feel at home. He assured that he will try to explore the possibility of setting up a Toy Train, which would add more attraction to the place.

Lyngdoh dedicated the amphitheatre to the people of the area with a hope that the amphitheatre will benefit them in many ways.- By Our Reporter
