Meghalaya’s count rises to 803 as 19 fresh cases reported

SHILLONG, JULY 30: Nineteen more persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday taking the total active cases in the state to 588.

Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War told reporters that 15 new cases are from East Khasi Hills that include 13 BSF troopers, a returnee from Bihar and a high risk contact of a positive case.

He said the positive cases detected in other districts are also returnees from Assam which include 2 in West Garo Hills, 1 in West Jaintia Hills and 1 in South Garo Hills.

“In total, we now have 588 active cases in the state,” Dr War said while informing that a total of 210 patients have so far recovered from the infection in the state with the recovery of three more persons.

Shillong, the district headquarters of East Khasi Hills as well as the capital of the state is the worst hit district having a total of 491 active cases which includes 254 BSF, 203 civilians and 34 armed forces personnel.

There are 44 active cases in Ri Bhoi, 16 in East Jaintia Hills, 15 in West Garo Hills, 14 in West Jaintia Hills, 4 in South West Garo Hills, 4 in West Khasi Hills and 1 in South Garo Hills.

The state so far has registered a total of 803 COVID-19 positive cases while 5 have so far succumbed to the deceased.

As of Thursday, a total of 35,572 samples were sent for testing of which 34,657 were found to be negative while test results of 112 are awaited. Meanwhile, over 24,147 people have returned to the state.
