Mentally-challenged minor gangraped

SHILLONG, APR 3: A 16-year-old mentally challenged girl was allegedly gang-raped by seven men at a remote village in East Jaintia Hills district.

Acting on a complaint lodged with the Officer in-Charge (OC) of Khliehriat police station, four accused which include a minor have been arrested for their involvement in the heinous crime.

The arrested persons have been identified as Soi Lamurong, Kamai Chyrmang alias Jok (32), Poisalan Lamurong (19) and a 16 year-old boy, district police chief S Thamar said here.

Thamar, however, said the other three accused – Kis Shadap, Marjan Chyrmang, and Boting Chyrmang were found absconding and police are already on the job to nab them.

All the accused are from Mynthning village. A case has been registered under section 376 (g) IPC read with section 6 of POCSO Act against the accused.
