Militants kill gatekeeper

TURA, JAN 11: Two armed Achik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) militants murdered a 30 year old man at the remote village of Ronkhugre in West Khasi hills at about 6 am Sundau morning. The murdered man, who worked as a gate keeper, was shot in both the legs by  AK rifles and was rushed to the Mirza Civil Hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Operations to nab the two suspected killers, who the police team said belonged to the Jack Marak led AMEF, are currently on. The victim has been identified as Entison Sangma and worked as a gate keeper in the Mahari gate on the NH 44 route.

“We suspect the killing to be due the demand for ransom and is the handiwork of the AMEF outfit. We launched operations immediately after receiving information but the two are still at large. Operations will continue in search of the murderers”, said West Khasi Hills SP S
Nongtyngnger.

“He was shot in both his legs with an AK rifle. His relatives rushed him to MIrza but he was declared brought dead by the doctors”, added Nongtyngnger Sources confirmed that the killing was due to the non-payment of a demand note served to Sangma, while also confirming that the deceased is survived by his wife and two young children.- From Our Correspondent
