‘Health concerns important’

SHILLONG, SEPT 21: Even as chief minister Mukul Sangma claimed that he is not aware of the Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) attempt to open up new deposits in Kylleng -Pyndengsohiong -Mawthabah (KPM) Project in Meghalaya, he however said that the Meghalaya government has made it amply clear to the union government that mining or uranium cannot take place unless the health concern of the people are addressed.

Sangma told reporters on Monday that he had taken up the issue of uranium mining in Meghalaya with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the present Prime Minister Narendra Modi and made it amply clear that mining of uranium cannot take place unless and until the health concern of the people of the areas are resolved.- By Our Reporter
