MLA seek govt’s intervention

SHILLONG, AUG 23: Congress legislator from Mawsynram Himalaya Shangpliang on Monday sought the intervention of the Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Health & Family Welfare Prestone Tynsong into the various proposals pending with the department.

In a memorandum submitted to Tynsong, Shangpliang requested for early sanction and construction of the PHC in Sawsymper as assured in the floor of the Assembly during the budget session.

He also reminded the need to speed up commissioning of the Lawbah PHC in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“In view of the corona pandemic, functioning of this health centre will benefit the people of the area to get treatment and health facilities. Inauguration of the PHC may kindly be done at the earliest,” Shangpliang stated in the letter.

According to him, doctors, nurses and para medical staff have been appointed a few months back and the building is also completed except for power connection.

Stating that the government had also approved setting up of three health sub centres in Weiloi, Jyllep and Dholai, the MLA however said, “The DMHO East Khasi Hills is yet to conduct site inspection of these selected areas and submit reports to the concerned authorities. The action needs to be expedited to enable setting up of more  health centres in the rural areas during the current financial year.”

On the other hand, Shangpliang also asserted the need to repair the Mawsynram CHC, which bagged the best hospital in East Khasi Hills district and was awarded during this year’s independence day celebration by the Chief Minister.

He said inspite of the constraints and problems faced by the medical officers due to poor infrastructural support, the hospital is struggling to provide the best services to the people of the area.

The building of the CHC is in a dilapidated condition and requires immediate repairs including the quarters of the staff, he added.

The MLA has also requested the government to immediately repair the Ryngku PHC.
