SHILLONG, NOV 19: Peeved at the alleged delay to make public a report probing into the killing of two civilians at Mookhep, Jaintia hills based ngos on Thursday decided to stage a black-flag protest march towards the main Secretariat on November 30.

The decision was taken at a joint meeting between Jaintia National Council (JNC), which include the EJNC and WJNC, and the Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM).

“We have decided to call for a black flag march towards the main secretariat, as a mark of protest against the delay of the state government to make public the magisterial enquiry into the incident,” HANM-JHD president Shaniah Suchen said in a statement on Thursday.

He said, “This delay has also caused a lot of doubts in the mind of the people of East Jaintia hills region especially the family members, on the intention of the government in respect to delivering justice.”

It may be mentioned at least two civilians were shot dead while several injured during the firing incident which took place at Mookhep village in East Jaintia hills district on September 24, last year.

“We are compelled to take this march, since the government is sending a clear message to the people that it wanted to shield the perpetrators involved in the killing of two innocent people,” Suchen said.

Meanwhile, the ngos also appealed to all the citizens to extend their support and cooperation on the issue in order to pressurize the government on the issue.-By Our Reporter
