MSCPCR condemns rape on minors

SHILLONG, AUG 26: The Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) has condemned the recent gang rape of four minors in the state.

In a statement issued recently, the MSCPCR chairperson LM Syiem said the gang rape of four minors that happened on August 8 is a magnified and glaring example of yet another act of sexual violence committed against minors, especially during this dark period of the pandemic.

“The MSCPCR strongly condemns this horrific crime and all such acts of violence against minors (both male and female),” she said.

According to her, children during these difficult times are especially vulnerable because of technological access to unsafe sites, lockdown depression, anxiety about their future and other socio-psychological dysfunctions.

“Let us, all stakeholders, parents, guardians, older siblings, teachers, the community, be alert and vigilant in protecting our children in whatever way we can. My prayers are with all our children who have been scarred by such trauma, as also with all parents from both sides who bear the consequences of such terrible acts,” Syiem said.
