NCP to take up with Speaker over wrong info issue

SHILLONG, NOV 28: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today said it would take up the matter with the Assembly Speaker and the Appellate Authority in connection with providing “wrong” information on the number of employees working in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

The Assembly’s public information officer (PIO) in reply to an RTI application filed by the CSWO had included the name of the party’s MDC Ricky Shullai in the list of temporary employees despite of him already resigned from the post of peon.

“We will take up this matter with the Assembly Speaker as to whether the information is a result of carelessness or planned,” NCP state president Sanbor Shullai said.

He said that the same will also be taken up with the appellate authority as per the provision of the RTI Act, 2005.

Earlier while addressing a press conference, Ricky said that he had tendered his resignation letter from post of peon in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly since November 8, last year.

“The resignation letter was also duly received by the authority concerned,” he said while reacting to the allegation made by a small group of women based on the RTI report received on August 24, this year.

It may be mentioned here that Ricky was elected as member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) from Laban- Mawprem constituency during the bye-election held in December, last year.

Victorian Marbaniang and Disyona Passah, residents of the constituency had alleged that Ricky and four others who are nephews and siblings of sitting legislator of South Shillong Sanbor Shullai were appointed based on favouritism.

They said that based on the RTI report, the MDC is still allegedly holding the post of peon in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

On this, the MDC while stating that he is not a superman who will be able to fly from place to another said, “The women should have collected proper information on the matter.”

Ricky said that he could have file an FIR or a defamation case against them but he wish not to do so since he is an MDC representing the people and the entire of constituency of Laban-Mawprem.

Meanwhile in a statement issued, the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly’s PIO said that as per official record from the office, Ricky Shullai, who was serving as temporary peon in the Assembly had submitted his resignation letter from the post on November 8, 2016. “The Assembly Secretariat had accepted his resignation letter and no further pay was prepared,” he said.
