SHILLONG, DEC 23: Former KHADC chief executive member Hispreaching Son Shylla and five other new MDCs on Friday were sworn in as newly elected members of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council.

The oath of office to new MDCs was administered by the District Council court  judge S Kharsyiemlieh during the swearing in ceremony held at the council’s conference hall.

The swearing in ceremony was held in the presence of the CEM Pynshngain N Syiem, council’s chairman LG Nongsiej and MDCs.

MLAs who resigned from MDC post last year former assembly speaker and NCP MLA Sanbor Shullai and UDP leader Metbah Lyngdoh also attended the ceremony.

Shylla, the United Democratic Party (UDP) MDC, was elected to KHADC after he unseated the HSPDP from Nongkrem constituency.

The new MDCs who took oath include – Samlin Malngiang (HSPDP) from Nongspung-Sohiong, Ricky Shullai (NCP) from Laban-Mawprem, Kimfa Sidney Marbaniang (Congress) from Rymbrai-Jyrngam, Equator L Nongrang (UDP) from Mairang-Nongkhlaw, Blandingstar Warjri (HSPDP) from Pariong-Mawthadraishan.

The recent bye-election was necessitated after seven legislators resigned as members of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council following passage of the anti-dual post act.

In KHADC, Congress  who is in the opposition bench has 6 MDCs followed by UDP is with 5 MDCs and HSPDP with 4 MDCs.

The ruling People Democratic Front (PDF) executive committee is led by suspended Congress MLA/MDC Pynshngainlang N Syiem.

Speaking to reporters, Shylla said that at the moment there is no move from his party to demand change of leadership in the KHADC.

“Whatever the decision on this issue has been taken collectively at the parliamentary party,” he said while denying that there is any offer to him to replace Syiem as CEM.

Shylla said that the party will ensure that all the constituencies which were earlier unrepresented should get equal share from the Rs 133.12 crore special assistance grant sanctioned by the centre.

Shylla also added that the party will seek information on the schemes proposed and approved by the state level committee (SLC) for implementation in their constituencies.
