Punish erring cops: Ngos

SHILLONG, JAN 7: Even as magisterial inquiry has been instituted to probe on the alleged police excess in A-Konggre village in West Garo hills district, ngos lodged a complaint against the additional superintendent of police (ASP) Bruno A Sangma and his team for assaulting eight youths.

The complaint was filed by A·konggre Social Response Organisation (ASRO), A·konggre Women’s Development Society (AWDS), elders and youths seeking immediate action against the erring police officials.

People from the village have come out in protest against the alleged police atrocities on the eigth youths on the night of January 5.

In the complaint ASRO, general secretary RM Sangma said, “The police operation team led by Addl. SP Bruno A Sangma have physically assaulted as many as 8 youths of Upper A·konggre and snatch away all their cellphones with SIM and along with some cash.”

According to Sangma on January 5 at around 9: 30 pm these local youths were sitting as usual by the fireside to warm themselves at the residence of RT Sangma. However, he claimed, when the police team arrived these youths were asked to kneel down by raising their hands and soon they were beaten up. The police, allegedly, took away the mobile handsets and cash money from them-By Our Reporter
