No attempt from Cong to reach out to 5 MLAs: Ampareen

SHILLONG, MAR 25: Suspended Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Ampareen Lyngdoh on Friday said that there has been no attempt from the Congress to reach out to the five legislators.

“We have not heard from anyone nor is anyone communicating anything to us. So we presume that they are happy with us leaving (the party) so we leave it at that,” Lyngdoh told reporters.

Earlier, the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) had decided to engage a few leaders to reach out to the five legislators.

On February 14, Lyngdoh along with four other MLAs – Kimfa S Marbaniang, PT Sawkmie, Mayralborn Syiem and Mohendro Rapsang – were put under suspension after the AICC has termed their decision to support the BJP-backed MDA government as “anti-party”.

All except Lyngdoh were given plump posts in the government. However, the five legislators also never responded to the show cause notices served by the party.

Stating that things remain the same, Lyngdoh said, “Nothing has changed. We don’t know what is in their mind.”

“We don’t want to unnecessarily comment on this matter. They did what they did and it has been a very painful experience for all of us and we just leave it at that,” she added.

Asked, the East Shillong legislator said that she is already gearing up for the 2023 Assembly polls by carrying out aggressive door to door campaigns.

“It is going very well and I am so grateful to the people of my constituency for their support, their overwhelming support in fact this time it has been absolutely not much of a friction anywhere it has been good for me this far.I have communicated to them my mind and every citizen in my constituency is giving me an opportunity to take a decision on my way forward,” she said.

Lyngdoh concluded by saying “They are the ones who voted me to this office and they are the ones who will give me their blessings and advice as to where I should go next and I am confident that this method of working with my constituency is what will yield a better result.”
