SHILLONG, FEB 19: The BJP claims that the NPP and UDP will form the next government with its support as these parties have forged an  “internal alliance.”

BJP’s organizing secretary for north eastern states P Chandra Shekhar told reporters at Hotel Polo Tower, “We are having internal-alliance with the NPP and the UDP and we will extend our full support to them to form a coalition-government in the state,”

The BJP’s is contesting only thirteen of the sixty assembly seats.

“We are having adjustment with Purno’s led party and we are having a friendly relationship with the UDP,” Shekhar said justifying their decision to contest only thirteen seats.

Shekhar expressed hope that the non Congress parties will get the ‘magic-number’ to form the next government in the state.

Goa deputy chief minister Francis De, Zousa, who is also campaigning in the state for the party,  lauded the state party unit for its achievement and urged voters to vote for the party’s candidates.

Zousa said, “Meghalaya need development and good governance and not only good assurances,” apparently hitting at the Congress’s assurances to the people on health, security and livelihood. He said Meghalaya which is being ruled by the Congress is still lacking behind in term of development.

Referring to Meghalaya in particular and NE in general, the Zousa said, “It is very difficult to travel to this part of the country as the region has been neglected and there are no proper and good roads connectivity,” adding “There is a lot of difference between BJP ruled states and those which are under the Congress rule.”

In 2008, the BJP won only one seat in Meghalaya but its lone MLA AL Hek joined the Congress and he was made a cabinet minister. Hek is contesting on Congress ticket from Pynthorumkhrah constituency in this election.-By Our Reporter
