SHILLONG,OCT 25: The state government project, ‘Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya (SHCDM)’ with the support of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, West Khasi Hills District in collaboration with Aide et Action (AeA) and Nongstoin College, will hold a day-long Nongstoin Youth Festival, 2016 themed, ‘Choose Future, Choose Skill’ on October 28at Madan Iew, New Nongstoin.
To kick start the Youth Festival, a ‘Marathon: Skill Run’ will be flagged off at 6am from DC’s office to Madan Iew. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners under four categories (Junior Girls, Junior Boys, Senior Girls, Senior Boys.).
Interested participants both junior (below 18 years) and senior (18 years and above) are requested to contact the District Sports Officer (DSO), Nongstoin for further information and registration from October 24th to 27th..
This will be followed by the main event at Madan Iew from 2pm onwards featuring a fashion show by designers from iLEAD, skit, songs and dances by various local artists.
Participating in the event are local budding fashion designers, beauticians who will be showcasing their creativity and share their experiences in the journey towards being a local young entrepreneur after acquiring training.
The event will also feature a promising folk singer-songwriter Lovely Khriam. Other highlight of the event will be the experience sharing of young skilled professionals, once sponsored by the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) sharing their story to engage with the young people.
The event is being organized with an aim to empower young people through SHCDM seeks to reach out to thousands of young people and offer them the opportunities to enroll themselves for the free training programme with assured job placements.
West Khasi hills deputy commissioner has urge the youth, parents and the community leaders of Nongstoin and its adjoining villages to take this opportunity and be part of this event, as a run up to many livelihood avenues that could come their way in the near future.
To further assist the youth for better understanding on various skills training, information cum registration booth will also be erected at the venue. –By Our Reporter
