Shillong, Oct 25 : Around one hundred men, women and children of the Thangkhiew clan belonging to the Lai-kpoh lineage gheraoed the office of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) for derecognizing the Seng Kur Thangkhiew Lai-Kpoh Thursday afternoon.
The clam members demanded clarification as to why their clan and its constitution was derecognize.
Order no.: DCXXVII/Genl/4/2011/12 dated February 4th 2011 was issued stating that the KHADC does not recognize the Seng Kur Thangkhiew Lai-Kpoh and its constitution.
Livingstone Thangkhiew, one of the leaders and also Basanor administrative head of the Thangkhiew clan said, “We have come here to demand a clarification as it is our right to have an organization to look after the welfare of the clan,”
Meanwhile, the KHADC Executive Member in-charge Elaka, L Blah said the executive committee will discuss again on the matter. “We will meet soon and go over the issue again before we can come to a conclusion,” Blah said.
The issue of derecognition of the Seng Kur Thangkhiew Lai-Kpoh came up after the Seng Kur Thangkhiew had written a complaint to the Syiem of Mylliem against the Basan of the clan, Basan Emerson Thangkhiew, for misappropriation of funds.
