Notice to the tainted teachers

SHILLONG, DEC 26: The state education department has recently issued show-cause notices to alleged tainted appointees in the government lower primary schools in the state directing them to reply within January 10 next year as to why their appointment  should not be terminated.

The Director of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) on December 20 had served show cause notices to teachers whose candidatures have found by a High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC) of currying favour for job, sources informed.

As per the letter, the Director has stated, “You are hereby asked to show cause in writing to the undersigned (Director) within January 10, 2014, as to why your appointment shall not be terminated.”

It may be mentioned that the HLSC was constituted by the state government to scrutinize and probe into the alleged education job scam unearthed by the report of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) last year.

The letter said, “The High Level Committee having scrutinized the records has found that your candidature is tainted.”

“On recommendation of High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC) and on orders of Meghalaya High Court Shillong, your service is to be terminated,” it stated. The Director further warned that failure to reply to the show cause will force the department to take action as per law against the teachers.

Earlier, the state government has instructed the Education department to terminate all “tainted” teachers who were appointed in lower primary schools, following a court order on petitions filed by several aggrieved “deserving” candidates.

According to a CBI report, among the 350 candidates appointed as assistant teachers, 255 names were recommended by politicians including the then education minister Ampareen Lyngdoh.- By Our Reporter
