NPP lodges complaint

SHILLONG, FEB 6: NPP leader and former Assembly’s Speaker ED Marak today lodged a complaint against alleged violation of the model code of conduct by a contractor in North Garo Hills District.

In a letter to the district deputy commissioner here on Tuesday, Marak said informed that the construction works of a bridge over Illdek River at Badaka started today which is clear cut violation of the model code of conduct.

Besides this, he said that a PWD road from Dilma Adap and Dapolpara village under Kharkutta-Dilma Adap Road which was left without any work in last 4/5 years was also stared by dropping sands, chips and other materials.

“Such deliberate violation of model code of conduct is nothing but just like bribing villagers and giving undue advantage to certain political party during Assembly polls to be held on February 27,” he stated.

Marak, who is also the president of NPP Adokgre Circle, urged the authorities to take serious action as per law against the responsible contractor for violation of MCC and immediately stop the construction work until the elections are over.

Meanwhile, he also alleged that the same construction work have just started under 37 Kharkutta Constituency just after the election date was declared by ECI.

“This may also be kindly looked into to avoid such abuse of power and ensure free and fair election,” Marak stated in the complaint.
