NPP’s claim not true: BJP

SHILLONG, OCT 9: The BJP Meghalaya state today it is not true that only the National People’s Party (NPP) had raised the issue related to observation of Good Governance Day and Digital India Day on Christmas and GoodFriday respectively.

“It is not true that it is only the NPP that have raised these issues. In fact the leaders of the BJP were the ones who have expressed their concerns on the matter at a meeting of the party held in New Delhi on November last year,” BJP vice president JA Lyngdoh said.

Reacting to a statement made by the NPP chief Conrad K Sangma at a meeting held in Pynursla on Saturday, Lyngdoh said the BJP state through its general secretary (David Kharsati) that time had also submitted a letter during the meeting held in New Delhi.

“In our letter, we had expressed that we the citizens of Meghalaya, we cannot accept the decision to observe the Good Governance Day on December 25, being Christmas, which is an important day not only to the people of Meghalaya but for the entire NE region, and accordingly demanded that the same should be shifted to other dates,” he said.

He further stated that the party is really grateful to the leaders of the BJP central leadership who have accepted the suggestion and immediately changed the Good Governance Day to a Good Governance Week.

“The decision was also announced by the BJP national spokesman Gopal Khrishna Agarwal in Shillong, “Lyngdoh added.

Similarly, he claimed that the BJP state party also took up the matter related to observing of the Digital India Day on a Good Friday. According to him, the party had immediately via a letter requested the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this.

“Therefore, it would not be right to say that it is only the NPP that have raised concern over these issues,” Lyngdoh said while stating that the party is committed to take up any issues which affects the sentiments of the people of state.
