Paul raises cop’s murder issue

SHILLONG, MAR 13: UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh said going by reports the killing of sub inspector PJ Marbaniang, office in charge of Patharkhama police station, is linked to the NGT coal ban and questioned whether it was right for the Ri Bhoi police to declare that he had committed suicide.

Raising the issue during question hours on Friday, Lyngdoh said on the floor of the house,  “Whether it was right and prudent for the district police to declare that the police officer had committed suicide, a day after the incident.”

Lyngdoh also urged the home minister Roshan Warjri to take upon herself in ensure that the police do not ‘shoot their mouth’. According to him, the claim of Ri Bhoi police contradicted (L) Marbaniang wife who asserted that her husband had not committed suicide.

Lyngdoh also brought to the notice of the assembly that going by reports, the murder of (L) Marbaniang is link to the NGT ban and subsequent pressure to release the trucks which he had detained for not possessing documents.

Home minister Roshan Warjri assured that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) will probe all these angles.

On allegation of tampering with crucial evidences, Wajri however said, “Since, the SIT is yet to complete the investigation; it would be premature to comment on whether crucial evidence has been tampered with.”
