PDA confident to win

SHILLONG, JULY 23: The opposition People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has expressed confidence to win the election to the post of Chairman by claiming that its strength might change to 21, tomorrow.

The PDA has fielded People’s Democratic Front (PDF) member from Mawkyrwat Hadrian Lyngdoh for the post.

Speaking to reporters after the filing of nominations here on Monday, PDF parliamentary party leader James Ban Basaiawmoit said that the opposition PDA will not withdraw its candidate this time.

Earlier, the opposition PDA members have abstained from participating in the recently held elections to the post of chief executive member (CEM) and Deputy Chairman of the Council.

Asked, Basaiawmoit said, “We have filed the nominations and we will participate in the election.”

On the other hand, Lyngdoh expressed confidence that the PDA will win the chairman’s post as miracles will happen on Tuesday.

“Our numbers are sufficient. There are 12 of us, and we believe miracles will happen as 12 might change to 21,” he said.

Slamming the KHADC chief executive member (CEM), Hispreaching Son Shylla, Lyngdoh accused him of being a “Judas” who betrayed the PDF. He recalled the time when 12 MDCs joined the PDF but was reduced to 11 when Shylla left PDF for NPP.
