People will again repose their faith in the party: Cong

SHILLONG, JAN 13: Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Mukul B Wasnik on Friday expressed confidence that the people of Meghalaya will again repose their faith in the party.

After reviewing the poll preparedness of the party, Wasnik said, “In another few days the dates for the elections will be announced and I’m very happy to mention here that we as a political party are in full preparedness to face the election.”

He informed the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has been able to identify and recommend candidates for 45 constituencies to the AICC for its approval.

“They will finalise their recommendations for the remaining seats shortly and soon we will be announcing the candidates,” he added.

Stating that the Congress is expecting some new joining to take place, Wasnik said, “In the next few days it won’t be surprising if certain important leaders will join the congress party. Already discussions have taken place.”

“The manner in which preparations are being made I am confident that we will be able to regain the confidence of the people,” he further expressed.

Expressing regret that many leaders who held important positions have left the party in the recent past, he however said, “Nonetheless on the basis of our existing cadre, we are able to build the organization to face the elections effectively.”

When asked, the Congress leader said the MPCC have made some suggestions as to who will be required to campaign for the party candidates and “we will be arranging the dates.”

“We have strong leadership available in the party, there is no doubt about that so at an appropriate time, we will reveal a card,” he said.

Also stating that the performance of the other political parties was not up to the mark, Wasnik said, “I don’t think that what they had promised in the previous elections, they have fulfilled those promises. Therefore what promises they will be making now will not carry much weight before the electorate, people are not going to be fooled again and again.”

“We are not only going to the electorate on the basis of candidates alone, candidate is one thing, the party’s vision is another thing, the party’s organization is another thing, there are several factors.

We have a past, we have a performance, we have a vision for the future, all put together along with the candidates, we will seek the support from the common electorate,” he added.
