BJP is a threat to Indian democracy: Cong

SHILLONG, JAN 13: Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Mukul B Wasnik on Friday slammed the BJP for “polluting” the Indian democracy.

“Their type of politics has been that if they get a majority in elections well and good, they will form the government but if they don’t get a majority, they will try and buy MLAs from other parties,” Wasnik told reporters.

He added, “Not only buying MLAs but also threatening MLAs by all means they will try to get a majority. This we have seen in Arunachal Pradesh where one man in five months from three different parties was sworn in as the chief minister.”

He said because of the BJP this has happened in Arunachal Pradesh.

“What happened in Manipur, what happened in Goa, what happened in Uttarakhand, what happened in Rajasthan, what happened in Madhya Pradesh, everywhere and solely I think BJP has polluted Indian democracy like anything,” Wasnik added.

The Congress has suffered a huge setback when 12 of its 17 MLAs merged with the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) while five were suspended for supporting the BJP backed NPP-led MDA government.

Stating that the BJP is a threat to democracy, the Congress leader said, “The BJP has decided to field their candidates in Meghalaya this certainly as a political party it is their right but I’m afraid to say that they are the biggest pollutant in Indian democracy.”
