SHILLONG, SEPT 8: East Khasi Hills district police on Thursday foiled a plan for daring robbery in a petrol pump and arrested three former militants of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA).

Acting on a tip off that some ex-GNLA cadres was planning a robbery of a Petrol Pump on the highway, the special cell of East Khasi hills police arrested one of the members of the group identified as Nobin D Sangma of Tikrikilla Nidanpur.

On interrogation Nobin admitted to the fact that he was planning to commit robbery with two others.

On his leading, two factory made .22 pistols and 9(nine) .22 live ammunition were recovered in a bamboo groove under a rock at Ward’s Lake.

He later led the police to two other ex-GNLA cadres who were part of the plot namely Salgra D Sangma of Dalu, Magupara, West Garo Hills and Sengsang R Marak of Resubelpara, North Garo Hills who were later also arrested.

A case is being registered under Arms Act and attempt to commit robbery. Interrogation is on to ascertain their involvement in other crimes.-By Our Reporter
