
TURA, JULY 26: In a major police crackdown on militants , Meghalaya police arrested 24 militants belonging to A’chik National Volunteers Council (ANVC-B) from a hideout in Edenbari, in the outskirt of Tura in West Garo hills.
Edenbari is about 7 km from Tura town.
After the police received a tip off about the militants presence, the police launched an operation at around 5 pm today. The militants seeing huge contingent of police surrendered.
West Garo hills SP Mukesh Singh said, “We have strong evidence against the cadres for the recent killing of two migrant laborers. Our interrogation is on”.
Police have recovered one DBBL gun, six shotgun, 25 shotgun, one modified pistol, one 7.65 rounds, four .22 rounds and incriminating documents.
Two migrant labourers from Mancachar in Assam’s Dhubri district were killed this week in the outskirt of Tura.
In January last year, the outfit had signed a peace agreement with the government of Meghalaya and has signed the “agreed text of settlement”. – By Our Reporter
