SHILLONG, JUNE 1 : Residents of Mawjongka village on Wednesday alleged that the police arrested the wrong person who was never involved in the case where a family who was disallowed to bury their daughter and had filed an FIR. According to them, the sordar of Wahlang 9 Kyntoit Disping Nongrang who was one among the 15 persons named in the FIR was never arrested till now.
On June last year, Shita Kharmuti and her family were disallowed to bury their daughter in the village jurisdiction. The incident forced the family to file an FIR with the Sohiong police outpost.
“The police instead arrested one Lestersing Jana, a man who was never involved in the incident but failed to arrest Disping Nongrang,” a resident of village Evanzir Warjri told reporters on Wednesday.
He alleged that Nongrang had also claimed to be the secretary of Mawjongka village when it is known that he is the sordar of Wahlang 9 Kyntoit, which means a conglomerate of nine villages failing under Sohiong Constituency.
“Interestingly, when we sought for the status report of the case we found that the name of one Shynshar Warjri was scrap and in his place the name of Lestersing Jana was included,” he said.
When asked, he said this mismatch was noticed when they compared with the original FIR filed by Kharmuti.
Warjri informed that earlier last month they had also met the East Khasi Hills District SP (City) Vivek Syiem on the issue and he assured to take necessary action.-By Our Reporter
