SHILLONG, FEB 1: East Khasi hills police on Wednesday gave awards for their exemplary service by helping the police to nab culprits responsible for kidnapping and also run and hit case that killed two people and injuring one.

On January 7th last, one Saralinda Kharphuli kidnapped a three weeks old infant baby of Shibari Khyriem of Marbisu.

The neighbours and the whole locality of Marbisu Mawknan and Mawngap Dukan immediately organized a search to recover the baby but Saralinda was nowhere to be found.

Finally at 7:30 pm the kidnapping was reported to Mawngap police who managed to locate her location in Ri-Bhoi district but not the exact place.

Later two concerned citizens namely Baiahunlang Khyriem of Mawngap Rim and Wanbhabok Myrthong of Marbisu Mawknan led police to the house of the accused at Umran Diary, Ri Bhoi district leading to the recovery of infant child and arrest of the accused person.

In a second case on January 10 at around 7:10 pm, one dumper truck ran over one Pulsar bike No. AS-01Y-4258 ridden by Benedict Mylliemumlong 22 years along with two pillion riders namely Donborlang Shynrit 32 years and Joshua Kurbah  from Umlyngka  at 5th Mile Upper Shillong and fled away. As a result of which both the pillion riders died on the spot and the rider sustained injury on his person.

One person namely Garry Warjri of 4 ½ Mile Upper Shillong saw the accident and chased after the truck. He noted the number and informed police who later managed to intercept the truck.

For the above good work done by the public in helping police, East Khasi hills SP M Kharkrang, awarded them with a certificate of appreciation and cash reward.
