Police to probe girl’s death

SHILLONG, FEB 17: East Khasi hills police have taken up investigation into the recent death of an eight-year-old girl from the city after suspecting foul play into  death. The body of the girl is likely to be exhumed for investigation.

“We are in the process of investigation after receiving information that there is more into the case,” East Khasi hills SP M Kharkrang told reporters on Tuesday.

On Friday last , an eight-year-old girl from Mawlai Kynton Massar had allegedly died on the spot after a tree trunk accidentally fell on her body.

“We were told that the incident had taken place when the girl along with other children was playing in the area, where there are some wood cutters around. The girl died on the spot after a tree fell on her,” Kharkrang said.

Kharkhrang, however,  said that prior to the incident police strangely received information about an incident which had happened to same girl.

“We are duty bound to investigate to ascertain the fact of the case,” Kharkrang asserted adding that his officers had gone to the locality to meet the parents and family members of the girl to conduct an enquiry.

According to Kharkhrang, police had taken up the case without any complaint from the family of the girl. He also informed that the family members of the girl have failed to cooperate with the police.

Kharkhrang informed that the police will have to investigate into the case and as far as exhumation of the body of the girl is concern the matter will be decided soon.- By Our Reporter
