Power minister says govt trying to reduce load shedding in the state

SHILLONG, APRIL 29: Power Minister James K Sangma on Monday said the department is trying to reduce the hours of the load shedding being imposed across the state.

“We know how much of an inconvenience but we appeal to the citizens to bear with us as we are trying not only to reduce but to bring a stop to the loadshedding,” Sangma told reporters.

He said the Rs 550 crore pending power dues to the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO) is a big challenge faced by the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).

According to him, this is because that there are many institutions and individuals have failed to pay their dues.

“We are trying to realise all those dues to make payment to NEEPCO,” Sangma said.

The frequent load shedding imposed by the MeECL for the past few months have affected the people of the state to a large extent.
