Prohibitory order issued

SHILLONG, JULY 4: The District Magistrate, Ri Bhoi District has promulgated an Order under Section 144 CrPC, prohibiting any person, organization etc from indulging in or resorting to the act of earth cutting within Ri Bhoi District.

          This has been done after receiving reports that large scale, indiscriminate earth cutting are taking place within Ri Bhoi District especially in Killing areas which may resulted in landslides, flash floods and erosion of soil and in turn, led to the destruction of private properties, house, electricity poles, water pipe lines drainage system etc lying in the upper and low areas. Furthermore, it has been mentioned that using of heavy duty machines in earth cutting may also resulted in intense noise pollution and air pollution.

The order will come into force with immediate effect until further order.
