PSO recalls harrowing experience

TURA, APR 25: Describing Thursday’s night attack by armed men as “15 minutes of harrowing experience”, twenty-four year old Aminur Islam, the Personal Security Officer (PSO) of South Garo hills deputy commissioner Chinmoy Gotmore, said that they were attacked by miscreants who had parked three trucks in the highway.

Gotmore along with his driver Rith Sangma and Islam were returning to Baghmara from Tura on Thursday night when all three of them had a providential escape when armed men attacked them at Adapgre, near Sibbari, located about 38 km from Baghmara town.

Gotmore who was seating in the front seat along with the driver escaped unhurt but Islam and Sangma sustained bullet injuries. Islam was hit on the chest by a bullet while Sangma sustained injury in his right hand. Both of them were brought to Tura for treatment and are out of dangers.

Talking to his correspondent, Islam said, “It was a lucky escape for all of us as we were in the midst of danger in the highway for around 15 minutes.”

Islam said as they drove towards Baghmara they had to stop the vehicle on seeing three trucks parked on the highway. He informed that they were attacked all of a sudden by armed groups.

Islam informed that Sangma made an attempt to turn the vehicle and was hit by a bullet on his right hand while he got injured on his chest. He said, “I came out of the vehicle and fired upon but don’t know if any one got hit.”

After being challenged by Islam who fired at them, the armed gun men took to their heels. Islam could not say how many armed men attacked them.

The incident took place between 7:45 – 8:00 pm on Thursday night.

Rith Sangma said, “I managed to drive the vehicle towards the BSF outpost at Sibbari, which is about 4 km from the incident site. At Sibbari PHC we were given first aid and brought here (Tura civil hospital) in an ambulance with BSF escort.” – From Our Correspondent
