SHILLONG, JUNE 29: Two youths who claimed to be ANVC (B) cadres were beaten to death on Saturday by the public after they had demanded Rs 50, 000 from a pastor of the Niabari Baptist Mission in Gitapara village which is about six kilometers away from Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills district
The youths have been identified as Pitus Marak (20) and Maylanton Sangma( 20).
Police said that as soon as they met the Pastor, the two youths demanded the money . However as the pastor did not have the sum they demanded he gave them Rs 6,500 and the youths disappeared.
However as soon as the villager got wind of the extortion they launched a search and caught them and took them to Gitapara village and beat them to death.Police said the bodies of the two youths were taken to Resubelpara government hospital for post mortem.
It is learnt that during the last few months extortion in North Garo hills district has suddenly risen as youths claiming to be from militant groups extorted money from the people of different villages.
It is learnt that wealthy residents of the district have also got extortion note from different militant organizations like ANVC(B), GNLA and UAPA .
Police said that patrolling have been intensified in different parts of the North Garo hills district after the sudden rise of extortions.-By Our Reporter
