 D. Dharma Rao, National Consultant for the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (PMTBMBA) at the Central TB Division (CTD) under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare on Wednesday met the Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan at Raj Bhavan.

During the meeting, D Dharma Rao and officials from the Meghalaya State TB Cell, including Dr. Moami Marak, SM&HO, Dr Amica Rynjah, APO, and Barnali, briefed the Governor on the progress of the PMTBMBA initiative in Meghalaya.

Governor, who is a donor/Ni-kshay Mitra providing nutritional support to TB patients in Meghalaya, commended the efforts of the 132 generous Ni-kshay Mitras, which include individuals, elected representatives, NGOs, corporations, cooperatives, faith-based organizations, and officials from various departments who have stepped forward to support a total of 1,177 TB patients in Meghalaya.

The Governor was informed that currently, 2,937 TB patients are undergoing treatment across the state. He acknowledged that Meghalaya has a relatively low population infected with TB and expressed his belief that with concerted efforts, achieving 100% coverage of nutritional support for TB patients in the state is possible. Through this meeting, he appealed for more donors to join the noble cause of Ni-kshay Mitra.

It was emphasized that the Ni-kshay Mitra initiative will encourage active participation of society in the fight against tuberculosis. It was also highlighted that improving the nutritional status of TB patients will lead to better treatment outcomes and help reduce the discrimination and stigma associated with TB.

Ni-kshay Mitra is an online platform where any individual (donor) can register and pledge nutritional support for TB patients. For more information, please contact the State TB Cell, Shillong Meghalaya.

Together, we can end TB. Let us pledge to make Meghalaya TB-free. TB Hareega, Desh Jitega!
