MeECL to take loan

SHILLONG, MAR 17: Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) will soon take loan from financial institutions to pay off the huge pending loans to twelve central power generating station including NEEPCO. The total amount of payment MeECL has to make is  Rs 400 crores.

Replying to a query in the assembly on Tuesday, Meghalaya power minister Clement Marak said, “Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) is going to take loan from different financial institutions clear the power dues with different central power generating stations.”

Marak informed the house that the total amount to be paid by MeECL is Rs 457.97 crores to different power companies.  He added, “The pending dues pertaining to North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) is Rs 375 crores.”

UDP legislator Jemino Mawthoh raised the issue and the minister also gave the break up of the pending dues to be paid by the MeECL.

The other pending dues include Rs 20.78 crore – National Thermal Power Corporation (NHPC), Rs 8.6 crore – National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Rs 6.19 crore – Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), Rs 7.62 crore – Unscheduled Intercharge (UI), Rs 2.15 crore – Mittal Processor Private Limited (MPPL), Rs 0.71 crore – NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN),  Rs 8.76 crore – Global Energy Private Limited (GEPL), Rs 0.4 crore – Power System Operation Corporation (POSOCO), Rs 14.6 crore – Wheeling Charge (ASEB), Rs 12.43 crore – ONGC Tripura Power Corporation (OTPC) and Rs 0.73 crore – PTC India Limited.

To a query posed by NPP legislator James K Sangma on the rate of interest charged by the financial institutions, Marak, however, informed that the department is processing the matter.- By Our Reporter
