Re-opening of Iewduh soon

SHILLONG, MAY 23: The state government will soon take a call for re-opening the two major commercial hubs in the capital city.

 After a review meeting on Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters that the government has been receiving a lot of requests for re-opening of Iewduh and Khyndailad (Police Bazar).

In view of this, Tynsong said the government has directed the chief secretary MS Rao and deputy commissioner of East Khasi Hills District Matsiewdor War Nongbri to workout on the modalities for re-opening of the two major commercial hubs.

“We have asked them to come back with the modailities and protocols on Monday and decision will accordingly be taken,” said the deputy CM.

The two markets have remained closed, except pharmacies, for the past two months ever since the national lockdown was imposed to combat against COVID-19 pandemic.

Asked, Tynsong however said the government will consider reopening of the markets only if it is convinced that the protocols will ensure health safety of the people.

On issue of religious gathering, the Deputy CM said opening of religious places is still not allowed as per order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
